VW Atlas takes 2018 SUV of the Year award

Atlas, SportWagen/Alltrack and Golf R get recognized.

The popular car review website Auto123.com named its top vehicles of the year– and the 2018 Atlas was among the winners.

According to an article published on the website, a special ceremony took place in Toronto at the end of the November to honour each of the winners – and the runners up across 17 categories.

The winners were chosen by 6 of the website’s veteran writers and testers, including the its chief writer. Among those in the running for 2018 Midsize SUV/Minivan of the Year, were Atlas, Honda Odyssey and Chevrolet Traverse.

In an earlier review of the Atlas, titled 10 Ways the Volkswagen Atlas Will Please your Family, the tester was impressed with features relating to performance and comfort. German-engineered for optimal handling and agility is at the top of the list of reasons you might want to consider the 2018 Atlas. The review also praises Atlas’ ability to tow recreational vehicles up to 5,000 lbs, and the available 4MOTION® All-Wheel drive, which provides added confidence in all weather conditions.

Comfort and convenience features like the optional second-row captain chairs, the Digital Cockpit, App-Connect, and ample cup holders also receive praise.

If you’re in the market for a mid-size SUV or Minivan, the 2018 Atlas just might fit the bill. This hard-working SUV provides the space, convenience and performance required by active Canadian families.

Golf SportWagen/Alltrack and Golf R named “Best Buys”

In other awards news, The Car Guide recently released its 2018 Best Buy awards. The 2017 Golf Alltrack was named Canadian Car of the Year, so it’s no surprise the 2018 model is also garnering praise. The 2018 Golf SportWagen, along with its more rugged sibling, Golf Alltrack, picked up top honours in the Wagon under $50,000 category.

Similarly, Golf R received Best Sports Car under $50,000. Custom made in Wolfsburg, Germany, Golf R features a finely tuned suspension system, standard 4MOTION® All-Wheel Drive and a powerful 292 horsepower turbocharged engine. Powerful, agile and responsive, Golf R is everything you want in a sports car without the hefty price tag. If you’re in the market for a car you’ll love driving, be sure to check it out.

The 2018 Autoshow season is here

All-New 2019 Jetta debuts in Montreal

It’s that time of year again when automotive manufacturers and enthusiasts come together to celebrate automotive excellence at Autoshows around the country.

This is such an exciting time of year for us at Volkswagen Canada. Some of our newer models will be on display, like the 2018 Atlas, Tiguan, the Passat GT and the e-Golf, alongside long-time favourites, Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Golf, Golf R, Golf GTI, Golf Alltrack and Golf SportWagen.

But what makes this Autoshow one worth checking out is the All-New 2019 Jetta. Fans of this popular sedan can look forward to a sleeker, more streamlined exterior body. The all new interior features driver-centric features like our digital cockpit and assistive technologies.

In fact, our team recently invited a group of Canadian automotive journalists to the Volkswagen Proving Grounds in Arizona to test drive the newly redesigned sedan. Find out what they had to say about the 2019 Jetta.  If you like what they had to say, be sure to sign up to receive updates and information about the 2019 Jetta, as it becomes available.

If you’re considering making the trip to one of the upcoming Autoshows, be sure to drop by the Volkswagen booth to get an up-close and personal look at the All-New Jetta. And, while you’re there, you can sneak a peek at our other models, especially if you’re in the market for something a little larger. The 2018 Atlas, with its third-row seating, 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive and massive interior is a definite must-see. Not sure you need something that big? No worries. The 2018 Tiguan has got you covered. It’s bigger and bolder than its predecessor and it comes with optional third row seating so there’s no need to sacrifice passengers space for cargo space. So, be sure to drop by an Autoshow near you to check them out.

We hope to see you there!

Atlas makes a bold design statement

Designers take more rugged approach to newest SUV.

Volkswagens have always been known for their curves. From the inception of the much-loved Beetle, to today’s Golf models, every single one of our vehicles sports softer, rounded lines. And over the years, we haven’t strayed much from this style. The changes from one model year to the next have focused more often than not on how our VWs perform, while design has remained more or less consistent. The nice thing about maintaining this consistency, is that no matter your model year, your Volkswagen never looks out of date. These ads for the 1961 and 1962 Beetles are perfect examples.

On more than one occasion our Golf model has been referred to as a “hot hatch”. Part of its popularity, apart from exceptional performance and handling, is the convenience provided by the hatch. The rounded shape of the door allows for more space in the cargo area than a sedan. And, like all our models, the Golf’s styling stays true to its roots.

So, how does all this talk about Beetle and Golf models relate to the All-New 2018 Atlas? Well, it’s a roundabout way of introducing you to a new look. It’s more than a design evolution. It’s a radical statement.

No one will argue the Atlas has a powerful presence. Based on sheer size alone, it commands attention. But this new Volkswagen is a clear departure from what is typically, a softer design direction. It’s bolder and definitely more angular. And with good reason. This is an SUV built for North America. Working alongside North American designers, our team researched how North Americans live with their vehicles. And the result is a wider, more substantial SUV that looks powerful, thanks to a prominent front grille, distinct headlights and available 20” wheels under higher wheel wells.

Inside, the Atlas is all about functionality. Every square inch has been considered, making it one of the most comfortable drives you’ll ever take. There’s plenty of elbow room, the contoured seats provide improved support and the third row was designed with adults in mind. There really is enough legroom for everyone. Second and third rows even come with their own vents for improved airflow throughout the cabin.

But the tilt and slide second row is where designers outdid themselves. This simple, but clever function allows you to access the third-row seating with tremendous ease. You don’t even have to remove a child safety seat.

Unfortunately, we can only tell you so much about Atlas. You have to drive it, to get it. Book a test drive today. We bet you’ll love it.

2018 Atlas makes room for you

The extra-large SUV that makes no sacrifices

There are a whole lot of things we depend on our cars for. To get us around town, and sometimes out of town. We haul friends, family and quite often, lots and lots of stuff. Maybe you’re a frequent road tripper. Or perhaps an avid home renovator. It’s the multitude of ways in which we use our cars and all the things we need to put in them that can at times, make them feel like they’re not quite big enough.

Enter the All-New 2018 Atlas. If you’re looking for an SUV that makes no compromises, this is the one. Need to chauffeur five kids to soccer practice? No problem. There’s room for up to 7 people. Just bought a new mattress? Save yourself the delivery fee. The 2nd and 3rd rows easily fold down flat so you can go ahead and slide them right in.

Let’s say you need to take the dog to the vet but you can’t find a babysitter. The Atlas has you covered. Thanks to the slide and tilt 2nd row seat, you don’t have to remove your child safety seat to get the dog into the back. Everyone gets in and out quickly and easily.

And when we say everyone, we mean everyone. If you’ve got a large passenger manifest, the Atlas ensures there’s room for plenty. Partly due to its large size, partly to its super clever design and use of space, the 3rd row seating carries 3 adult passengers comfortably. What’s more, you can swap the second-row bench for optional captain’s chairs, for added comfort.

The Atlas also handles everyday chores with exceptional ease, even when you can’t. For instance, if you’re the type of person who packs in more groceries than you can carry to the house in one trip, then the easy open liftgate is a lifesaver. Once you’ve loaded your arms full of bags, a simple wave of your foot under the back bumper will release and lower the liftgate. You don’t have to put anything down, and you’re less likely to drop something.

The Atlas has the versatility to handle any project you throw its way. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a DIY enthusiast, you have a busy family or are a snowbird heading south for winter, there’s room for you and all your stuff.
