Sporting Life 10k Run for Camp Ooch
Lace up your runners – the Sporting Life 10k is coming up fast!
Held on Sunday, May 12, in Ottawa and Toronto, the hugely popular road race promises to draw thousands of participants and spectators – from seasoned runners to kids and families – all out to run, walk, skip and simply enjoy the fresh spring air while raising money for kids with cancer.
Since its inception, the annual event has raised more than $19 million for Camp Ooch, a summer retreat in Muskoka for kids affected by childhood cancer. In 2018, 1,600 kids and their families experienced what campers call “the magic of Ooch,” exploring nature, having fun and just being kids.
As a longtime partner with Camp Ooch, Volkswagen Canada is proud to be part of the race. Last year, 56 VW employees were among those who crossed the finish line, generating more than $29,000 for the camp.
“We’re hoping to beat that number this year,” says Daniel Weissland, VW Canada CEO and president. “What better way to spend Mother’s Day than spending the day with your family and raising much-needed money for a good cause.”
To help raise awareness of Camp Ooch, Volkswagen is encouraging people to share their own stories of perseverance on social media. Each time the #StoriesForOoch hashtag is used, VW will donate $1 to the camp (up to $25,000).
