VW Joins Canadian Premier League as Founding Sponsor
|For footie fans, nothing beats the Beautiful Game. Whether player or spectator, soccer support in Canada is at a fever pitch. And now, we’ve got something new to cheer about—the Canadian Premier League (CPL).
A showcase for homegrown talent, the CPL will kick off Spring, 2019. The inaugural season will see matches between seven teams, from football clubs across the country, each competing for a chance to represent the Maple Leaf.
To build support, Volkswagen Canada has partnered with the CPL as a Founding Sponsor. It’s the latest sponsorship for VW, a company with a rich history as a supporter of soccer programs in the U.S. and globally.
It’s also a natural fit, when you consider VW Canada’s CEO and President, Daniel Weissland, is an avid footie fan, soccer dad (and half-decent striker)!
“Soccer is a team sport that is accessible to the masses, that brings people together and promotes a healthy active lifestyle,” says Lynne Piette, Director of Marketing at Volkswagen Canada. “We love the opportunity to help build the league for Canadians and help them get the same cache as the European leagues.”
One of seven founding sponsors, VW Canada will help grow league awareness while seeking ways to increase attendance and fan engagement, hosting special fan events and helping develop a national grassroots program for kids.
