Wolfsburg releases 2017 Volkswagen Golf series 7 in Europe
On November 10, Volkswagen Germany unveiled a major update to the 2017 2-door and 4-door European models Golf, GTI, GTE and Golf Variant. While North America will have to wait for the 2018 Golf models to see these changes, we do have details on some of the features that will be a part of the new series-7 Golf release in Canada, which includes Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagen and Golf Alltrack.
Premium segment technology
Golf drivers can expect a new range of high-end infotainment systems, available across all models and trim levels, including the Golf, GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagen and Golf Alltrack. These include redesigned Composition Colour, Composition Media and Discover Media that will be fitted with larger touchscreens for easier control.
Continued focus on performance
While the Golf hatchback will continue to benefit from a fuel efficient 1.8L TSI, the GTI is moving exclusively to a 220 HP 2.0L TSI with 6-speed manual transmission and optional 6-speed automatic DSG with Tiptronic®.
Bolder, more confident design
New details give the Golf’s iconic design greater clarity. All versions of will come with standard LED taillights that complement a new bumper design intended to further accentuate the Golf’s width.
Bi-Xenon headlights will be replaced with LED lights, standard on GTI Autobahn and Golf R and as an option on Golf, GTI and SportWagen Comfortline and Highline, and Golf Alltrack. All Golf drivers can also expect to see LED daytime running lights become standard across all models and trim levels.
On the inside, the Golf R will be the only model to feature a full digital cockpit with Active Info Display. This customizable, fully-digital instrument cluster allows drivers to set up individual profiles based on the information they want to see, such as “Consumption & Range”, “Performance & Driver Assistance”, or “Navigation”. When drivers select the “Navigation” profile, they can also choose to view the information in 2D or 3D. These interactive functions will appear with extreme clarity thanks on the 12.3-inch colour display with a resolution of 1,440 x 540 pixels.
Stay tuned for more details on the refreshed series-7 Golf.
