Volkswagen’s newest electric vehicle appearing in Paris

New Volkswagen I.D. set to make a statement in the new world of mobility.

Volkswagen’s new purely electric concept vehicle, I.D. is making its world debut at the Paris Motor Show. We’ve got your first look at the new vehicle of the future: The Car for Everyone.

According to Volkswagen Chairman, Herbert Diess, the new Volkswagen I.D. concept car is approximately the size of a VW Golf but will have the cargo space of a Passat. And the best part for customers, the price will be on par with a well-equipped and similarly powerful Golf, making the I.D. attainable for the average motorist.

To date, making an affordable electric vehicle that achieves such a range has been difficult due to the high cost of lithium-ion cells and the battery packs that hold them. But now that battery prices have begun to fall amid technological advances, aggressive price cuts and a surfeit of production capacity, it’s expected that we’ll be seeing more electric vehicles on our roads before long.

While the Volkswagen I.D. on display in Paris is a prototype, plans are underway to release the production model in 2020, with a fully-automated driving function expected by 2025. It will also feature an intuitive new user interface focused on fun and safety. The Volkswagen I.D. is expected to be as iconic as the Golf and offer a 500-600 km range on a 15-minute charge.

The Paris Motor Show runs from October 1-16, 2016. We’ll be following all the excitement and reporting further as information becomes available. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, if you’re interested in a fully electric vehicle from Volkswagen, check out the e-Golf. While it’s currently only available in the U.S. , we’re working on bringing it to Canada.

Annual Berlin Klassik draws a crowd

Hundreds of German car enthusiasts flock to Berlin Klassik Auto Show.

September 10-11, 2016, hundreds flocked to Guelph Lake Conservation Area to welcome the return of the Berlin Klassik Auto Show. The annual car show featured over 50 trophy classes, a swap meet, car wash and detailing day, and exotic car test drives. With so many Volkswagens on display and Volkswagen enthusiasts at the show, we thought this would be the perfect place to show off some new models.

Volkswagen Tiguan, e-Golf and GTE make an appearance

We were excited to have the chance to bring 3 new models: electric vehicles, e-Golf U.S. model and GTE, a European exclusive, and the 2018 Tiguan European model.

Golf GTE

Speaking of new models, our favourite classic turned modern car was also on display thanks to a proud new owner. The 2017 #PinkBeetle stood out among the crowd in its Fresh Fuschia Metallic paint. Inside the checkered pink upholstery and pink interior accents add style and fun. #swoon! If you’re a Volkswagen Beetle fan, consider this limited edition model if you’re in the market.
